This week in Europe

Below we would like to draw your attention to the upcoming events in Europe that directly concern or present a particular interest for Armenia. Special attention is paid to international organizations and the scheduled meetings and events in the framework of their activities.

Foreign Affairs Council of EU will meet on October 20 in Luxembourg. The Council will start with a discussion of joined-up strategies to counter the spread of Ebola. The discussion will cover the situation with respect to ISIL in Iraq and Syria. Finally, the Council will take stock of the situation in Ukraine, including the implementation of the peace plan, support to the OSCE special monitoring mission and further EU assistance for Ukraine. A dinner of foreign ministers will follow the formal session to mark the approaching end of Catherine Ashton’s mandate as EU High Representative.

Plenary session of European Parliament will be held on October 20-23 in Strasbourg. Fight against Ebola, EU Budget for 2015 and other issues are in the agenda. Also Customs duties on goods originating in Ukraine will be discussed. The Parliament will vote for new Commission.

The leaders of EU member States will meet on 23-24 October. The European Council will vote for new Commission, also issues on foreign policy will be discussed. The final agenda will be concluded on October 21 by The General Affairs Council.

EPP leaders will meet for Summit in Brussels ahead of European Council.

On October 26 Ukraine will vote for new Parliament.
