Pope Francis to Visit the Descendants of Armenian Genocide Victims
Pope’s visit to Armenia emphasizes his desire to show his closeness to the Armenian people, who suffered so much during its long history and to share the desire for peace. According to News.am, this was declared by a spokesman of the Holy See, Father Federico Lombardi during a press conference on Pope’s visit to Armenia.
According to him, ecumenism is a key focus of the Pope’s trip to Armenia, following the visit of Catholicos Garegin II at the Vatican in April last year, Vatican Radio reports.
During his visit to Armenia, the Pope will meet with the descendants of Armenian Genocide victims.
On the last day of the trip, Pope Francis will visit Khor Virap Monastery, near the Turkish border, where he will release pigeons in the direction of Mount Ararat.
