Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe considered the report on the presidential elction in Armenia held on February 18, 2013. The report was presented by Karin Woldseth.

According to the report, the election “was generally well-administered and was characterised by a respect for fundamental freedoms”, thus constituting an improvement over the previous presidential election in 2008.

Armenia’s presidential election was a test for the country’s democracy, PACE delegate Rene Rouquet said.

In his speech, Rouquet underscored some improvements, in particular access to media, at the same time noting that there is a lot of work to be done.

In her turn, Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin told about serious violations during the voting process. The commission members did not check identity of the voters at the polling stations, she stressed.

She believes to help Armenians, PACE delegates must tell the truth which is not fully reflected in the report.
