7.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HITS TURKEY
A strong earthquake shook the Van Province on Sunday, at 15:41 Yerevan time. In the epicenter, the tremors were measured at 7.2, followed by a series of aftershocks with the strongest 6.0 magnitude tremor occurring late Sunday evening. The epicenter was located 38km to the north from Van, 10km deep.
BBC reports that according to Seismic Services of Turkey the death toll could reach thousands. It also said that schools will be closed for a week in Van.
The earthquake of 3-5 magnitude was registered on the territory of Armenia as well.
